KNOPPIX is a bootable Live system on CD or DVD, consisting of a representative collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a productive Linux system for the desktop, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk.

A really nice distro. Very easy to use and it really supports most diverse hardware components.

  Great Distro:
The only thing I don't like about it is that when I actually install it on a machine anything I didn't start with respect to Samba and SU mode doesn't seem to work. It's easy enough to start those processes before installing and configing things the way I want them. It's just kind of a hastle to not be able to simply type sudo knoppix-installer in the run command box and have everything work right from the start. After it's configed it works flawlessly and it is a truely great piece of software.

I have used Knoppix 5.1.1 Live DVD on my P-4 1.4 GHz. My Live Knoppix is able to detect "eth0" and I am able to access Internet.

With My Debian I am not able to connect it to Internet. Surprisingly if I ping in Debian its able to respond properly.

Some how my web browser is not able to see the port. Surprisingly OS is able to see the port but web browser is not. Any suggestions.

New distro seems to be fairly stable but I'm still testing it on my new machine. So far it's the same old Knoppix that I've come to know and love. For you security buffs out there you should try KnoppixSTD. I just hope you can use shell commands...

Knoppix.5.3.1 only comes as Live DVD no CD officially, see forum for a Japanese version. The DVD is too big to fit on a FATxx filesystem. But the DVD works great.
