NetBeans IDE 6.7.1 in Programming / Java   Votes: 3

A very modular IDE(functionality can be extended by plug-ins). Includes support for desktop(AWT/Swing), web tier (Servlets/JSP/JSF/Struts) and Java Enterprise Edition(EJB and Web Services) development, and bundles a database, Apache Tomcat Web server and Java EE application server(Glassfish), depending on the version you download.

NetBeans 5.5.1 is an awesome IDE. I normally prefer Eclipse for developing my core java applications but when it comes to Enterprise Java its NetBeans all the way !!! I was very impressed specially with the Visual Web Pack which gives you the drag and drop feature for adding controls on to your web page and internally links these controls to your JSF beans. The only draw back I saw for this IDE was its slightly resource hungry and u need a good configuration @least 512 MB of RAM for this IDE to run smoothly even when developing core java applications but still considering the amount of resources packed in this IDE (and fact that most PCs for developers now a days equipped with at least 512MB RAM) I see this as just a tiny little issue.
Overall I feel this IDE is pretty cool but . . . . I would not recommend this IDE to a beginner (for me beginners should go the emacs/vim/JCreator/Crimson way)
