VLC (initially VideoLAN Client) is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

The download for SuSE doesn't include half the files it's dependant on.

This is by far one of the best multimedia players out. It supports VOB's, TS, MPEG, AVI formats. The installation under SUSE has even gotten easier using the on line installation source under YAST.
Type: HTTP / Servername: download.videolan.org /
Directory: /pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/
Replace in the Directory above with your installed SuSE Version. Supported at this time are :
9.3
10.0
10.1
10.2
This will download and install not only VLC but all supporting packages that are needed. I have not run into any discrepancy problems using this method, it resolved them.
One last note, because I could get this one package installed and working. It was the last nail in the coffin for MS Windows on my computer. I do a lot of video, video streaming and music streaming.

I gave up trying to install VLC. When I failed to find binary packages, spent hours trying to compile from source. The problem was mainly dependencies which were often hard to find, when found, some of them refused to compile. I have liked VLC on Windows. It's a pity I could not install it in Linux (Mandriva 2008).

If it doesn't ship with your distro --> nightmare.
I'm using openSUSE. The only way that I can instal VLC correctly : YaST.
